Women’s Giving Circle Awards $24,760 to Eight Local Organizations

WOMEN’S GIVING CIRCLE AWARDS $24,760 TO EIGHT LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS

MADISON, IN – The Women’s Giving Circle of Jefferson County (WGCJC) awarded $24,760 to eight organizations at the WGC Annual Event on April 3, 2024, at the Fairfield Inn. The grants utilized money collected from membership dues and donations made in 2023, funds raised through the 2023 Great Cookie Caper, as well as the annual available amount from the Women’s Giving Circle Endowment in Memory of Bonnie Hare. Awards are made to qualifying organizations that apply through the annual WGCJC competitive grants cycle and have a project and/or program that impacts women and/or children in one of four fields of interest: Education, Economic Empowerment, Physical & Mental Health, and Violence & Crime Prevention.

The eight organizations are:
Englishton Park, Inc. – to support the Children’s Summer Camp tutoring program and purchase team-building supplies
Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Indiana – to support the home repair program for low-income women homeowners
Jefferson County United Way – to purchase books for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library
Junior Achievement of Kentuckiana – to purchase licensing for the SmartStart: Nurturing Financial Wizards financial concepts program to be implemented in local schools
Life Choices Clinic – to purchase online curriculum for the Life Lessons Center education program
Madison Consolidated Schools – to support the Trust-Based Relationships Initiative for high protein snacks and manipulatives to address food insecurity and misbehavior during the school day
Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) – to support the Santa for Seniors program to make holidays brighter for elderly women residing in nursing homes
Safe Passage, Inc. – to provide rental assistance for domestic violence survivors and purchase prevention programming materials

The Women’s Giving Circle is a group of philanthropic-minded women of all ages, means, and backgrounds who combine their financial strength to make a positive change for the women and children of Jefferson County. Annual membership to the WGCJC is a $100 tax-deductible contribution. Junior memberships are $50 and open to girls ages 18 and under. Of the $100 annual donation, $75 goes in a fund for the annual grant cycle and $25 is placed in an endowment fund for future granting. The junior membership is split $25/$25. Assets of the WGCJC are held and maintained at the Community Foundation of Madison & Jefferson County.
