Delbert O. King was a well-respected educator and coach within the Hanover/Saluda area of Jefferson County. The gymnasium of Southwestern High School bears his name honoring the 32 years in which he served as the school’s principal. In 2000, Delbert’s family established the Delbert O. King Memorial Endowment following his unexpected passing in late 1999, to honor his time at Southwestern and his love of sports.
Annual grants from this fund are made to the Southwestern Athletic Department to provide sports equipment to students who may not be able to participate in school sports due to financial hardship.
