2008 Grants Program Awards

These grants are made possible by donors to Unrestricted Endowments. These people did not direct how the grants were to be used, but rather gave the Foundation’s Board of Directors the power to address changing community needs with these funds. Your community thanks all of these special people for their generosity and thoughtfulness.

Cornerstone — $4,000 to draw up a set of specific guidelines for historic building renovations

Centerstone — $1,677 for training for a parenting program

Deputy Volunteer Fire Company — $20,000 for self-contained breathing apparatuses

Girls Inc. — $1,000 to remove a tree

Jefferson County Transitional Services for Women — $15,000 to purchase a facility

Kent Volunteer Fire Company — $7,500 to fix the firehouse roof

Madison-Jefferson County Public Library — $12,500 to open a branch in Hanover

Madison Main Street Program — $3,000 to develop a “brand” for Madison

Ohio Valley Opportunities — $2,000 for playground equipment at the Head Start facility

Pathways Youth Shelter & Framily Services — $8,000 to provide on-line courses at the Learning Center

Region 15 Children’s Advocacy Center — $41,300 to open a facility that will offer services to abused children and their families

Salvation Army-Madison Citadel — $25,000 to start a free dental clinic

Scalo House — $500 for a clothes dryer

Turning Point Domestic Violence Services — $1,500 to purchase small cards with emergency information for victims of abuse

United Way of Jefferson County — $5,000 for a 4community II match of $20,000

Various Charities — $2,500 for training staff and volunteers

Big Brothers/Big Sister — $975 for promotional equipment
Clifty 6 Fire & Rescue — $12,655 to convert a fire truck to a rescue vehicle
Daughters of the American Revolution — $4,800 for presentation equipment to raise funds to restore and upgrade John Paul Park
Duggan Library - $13,000 for an archive exhibit
Dupont-Lancaster Volunteer Fire Company — $10,900 for a suppression hood
Girls Inc. — $16,000 to renovate their addition
Hanover Parks — $5,470 for playground equipment and an aquatic program
Jefferson County Transitional Services — $10,000 for an in-jail substance abuse program
Lide White Boys & Girls Club — $6,000 for an automatic handicapped door
Madison/Jefferson County Animal Shelter — $10,000 for equipment
Madison/Jefferson County Public Library — $16,950 to preserve rare documents
Madison Parks — $10,000 to renovate Rucker Sports Center
Pathways Youth Shelter & Family Service Center — $7,500 for a mini-van
Ryker’s Ridge Volunteer Fire Company — $12,500 for pagers
Turning Point — $1,750 for educational brochures
Western Fire Company #3 — $10,000 for self-contained breathing apparatuses

2006 Grants Program Awards

Big Brothers/Big Sisters — $3,300 for office equipment.
Boy Scouts - Camp Louis Ernst — $5,000 to build a new winter camp shelter to replace one that is in very bad condition.
Canaan Masonic Lodge — $5,000 to turn the derelict Masonic Lodge into a community center Canaanites can be proud of.
Canaan Volunteer Fire Company — $9,000 to replace old, worn, personal protection gear.
Deputy Volunteer Fire Company — $7,000 to purchase new two-way radios.
Jefferson County Historical Society — $10,000 for a traveling children's exhibit.
Jefferson County Park Board — $17,000 to repair Lake Krueger's spillway.
Lide White Boys and Girls Club — $5,600 to help purchase a mini-bus to replace the worn out van.
Madison Junior High Peer Counselors — $3,000 for a summer camp that teaches students to prevent bullying, to learn to be peer mediators, and to develop a drug prevention program.
Pathways Youth Shelter & Family Services — $4,500 to train volunteers to be child advocates for Jefferson County youth who are wards of the state.
Pathways Youth Shelter & Family Services — $10,000 for two-year funding of an alternative academic-based education program.
Turning Point — $700 to purchase a digital camera to document injuries caused by domestic violence.
TV 15/Cable Advisory Board — $10,300 to upgrade equipment.
United Way of Jefferson County — $24,000 for the IDEA Club.
