History of the Community Foundation

The first community foundation was established in Cleveland in the early 1900s. Your Community Foundation is one of more than 600 community foundations in the country with assets of more than $50 billion.

Your Community Foundation was established in 1991 by a group of local volunteers. It is governed by a board of unpaid volunteers from Jefferson County.

Since its birth, more than 100 permanent funds have been established in the Foundation.

Gifts received since 1991: $1,790,731
Grants made since 1991: $6,604,129

Grants total 39.3% of gifts

The Foundation's assets at the end of 2007 totaled $16.8 million.

The Foundation has adopted the National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations and the Ethical and Operational Standards for Indiana Community Foundations. These Standards ensure that the Foundation is governed and managed with great integrity.

 

The Foundation is a member of the Indiana Grantmakers Alliance and the Council on Foundations
